Unveiling of the monument to the expelled history students and teachers

"In memory of those persecuted under National Socialism who studied and taught history at the historical institutes of the University of Vienna in 1938-1945".

At the University of Vienna, with the seizure of power by National Socialism in 1938, around 3,000 predominantly Jewish students, teachers and staff were dismissed and subsequently expelled and/or murdered - including 120 students and eight teachers in the field of history.

Today's history departments of the University of Vienna face up to their history, remember this injustice and erected the memorial "Wenn Namen leuchten" (artistic concept: Iris Andraschek) with the names of all expelled in front of the central lecture hall of history students in the main building of the University of Vienna. The unveiling and public presentation of the memorial took place on May 19, 2022.
