130th birthday of Erwin Schrödinger

Erwin Schrödinger was born on 12 August 1887 in Vienna. He studied physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna, where he also qualified as a lecturer in theoretical physics. In 1922 he became a professor at the University of Zurich, where he developed his groundbreaking research on wave mechanics, which he published in 1926. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1933 for "Schrödingergleichung".

Since 1927 at the University of Berlin, he left Germany as an opponent of National Socialism in 1933 and went to England. In 1936 he returned to Austria as a professor of physics at the University of Graz and as an honorary professor at the University of Vienna, but was expelled for political reasons after the "Anschluss" in 1938 and emigrated to Ireland. In 1956 he returned to Austria and worked as a professor for theoretical physics at the University of Vienna until his death.

In the main building of the University of Vienna, Erwin Schrödinger is honored since 2006 as part of the installation "Nobelpreis und Universität Wien – Gruppenbild mit Fragezeichen".
