Until April 23rd, 2016, a touring exhibition dedicated to the topic "Innovation through Basic Research" will be presented in the entrance hall (aula) of the university's main building.This historical and biographical exhibition shows significant results of basic research which originated at the University of Vienna.
The university's development as a modern institution of science and research can be traced back to the reforms of medical studies in the second half of the 18th century.It was the achievement of freedom of teaching and learning during the revolution of 1848, however, which laid the foundation to the university's world-wide reputation during the late 19th and early 20th century.
