150 years ago, on 22 April 1876, the physician Robert Bárány was born. He was the third Nobel laureate from Austria(-Hungary), following Bertha von Suttner and Alfred Hermann Fried. He was awarded the prize in 1914 for his work on the physiology and pathology of the vestibular apparatus, but due to the war, he was unable to accept the prize until 1916.
Whilst he gained international recognition, he faced numerous difficulties at the University of Vienna, which led him to accept a post at Uppsala University in 1917.
