The "Dies Academicus“ or "Rector's Day", which the University of Vienna celebrates annually on March 12, the day the university was founded, developed into the central holiday of the University of Vienna at the end of the 20th century. The introduction and establishment of this memorial event had several roots, which together comprise today's "Dies Academicus". Today, the program presents itself in the field of tension between tradition-oriented recollection and modern scientific innovation and excellence.
