On 17 July 1949 the first Summer School of the University of Vienna was opened in Thumersbach near Zell am See. It was founded to reactivate the international scientific ties on the student level. In particular, it was intended to help improving Austrian-American relations. In this sense, primarily US students should initially participate in the program and get to know Austria on the basis of its history and culture, its politics and economy and the newly constituting identity, and interact with Austrian students. This years' Summer School will take place at Lake Wolfgang from 14 July to 11 August, 2019.
