50. anniversary of the death of Hans Leitmeier

In 1908, Hans Leitmeier became privately assistant of professor Cornelio Doelter at the Department of Mineralogy at the University of Vienna. He qualified as a lecturer in 1916.

In February 1938, he was given the title of a 'ordinary professor' for mineralogy and petrography before he was persecuted in national socialism for racist reasons and expelled by the University of Vienna.

Leitmeier returned to the University of Vienna after the end of the Nazi regime and became professor and head of the Mineralogical Petrographic Institute in 1945. In the academic year 1949/50 he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.

On June 15, 1967 Hans Leitmeier died in Vienna.
