120th anniversary of Anton Menger's death

On 6 February 1906, the legal scholar Anton Menger (von Wolfensgrün) died in Rome.

Menger was an associate professor of Austrian civil procedure law at the University of Vienna from 1874 and a full professor from 1877. He served as dean and senator of the Faculty of Law and Political Science and as rector in 1895/96. Menger was not only committed to the introduction of ‘popular university courses’; as an avowed socialist, he also published on socio-political topics and devoted himself to the idea of ‘social jurisprudence’. Thirteen years after his death, a monument to him was unveiled in the Arkadenhof (arcaded court yard) of the University of Vienna in 1919.
