Enrolment form “Nationale” (1924–1968) of Kurt Waldheim

An example of a completed enrolment form, known at the time as the “Nationale”, from the winter semester of 1937–38 (filled out by Kurt Waldheim, then a law student and later UN Secretary-General and President of Austria).

The two-page form was introduced in 1924 and required extensive personal information about the student as well as details regarding the courses they intended to take; it had to be filled out by hand multiple times each semester based on the course catalog and submitted. The form remained largely unchanged until the transition to computerization in 1967/68.

These forms remained within the university administration, but the same information was also found in the “registration book,” which remained with the students.
